Father Eddie Samaniego, S.J., pastor of Most Holy Trinity Church in San Jose, talks about how by combining prayer and action we can truly "make a difference every day."

Since the 19th century, when Jesuits pastored Mexican workers in the New Almaden mining district near San Jose, to today’s multiethnic parishes in Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Utah, we have celebrated the diverse cultures of God’s people.

Man lighting candle in front of wall that reads,

Our commitment to serving poor, marginalized people has often brought us into the inner city--in Hollywood, Phoenix, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Jose.

Brimming with faith, talent, and energy, many of our parishioners serve as lay partners in ministry, as community builders, and as passionate advocates for social justice. They carry on the momentum created by the laypersons who collaborated with Ignatius and his companions almost 500 years ago. Our parishes also respond to the needs of the archdioceses and dioceses in which they are located.

"Spirituality can not only be priests, religious, and a limited circle of predominantly middle-class laypersons. These treasures must engage the reality and insights of women, diverse races, social classes and non-Western cultures."
Allan Figueroa Deck, J.J. (America)
