Am I Called?

If you feel that you are called to a religious vocation and would like to explore becoming a member of the Society of Jesus, you are encouraged to do the following:

  • Continue to cultivate your prayer life and listen to where the Lord is inviting you.

  • Talk to a Jesuit in your area about your vocation interest.

  • Attend a Come and See event or other vocation events in the California Province to encounter Jesuits and their works. Click here to find moments for encountering Jesuits around the California province and beyond.

  • Be in conversation with Br. Jim Siwicki, SJ, Vocation Director, or Fr. Boom Martinez, SJ Vocation Promoter.  They will guide you through your inquiry and discernment process, which may take time from when you first inquire until you are ready to apply to the Novitiate.

  • Further along the discernment process, you should engage in spiritual direction with a Jesuit. The vocation director can help you locate a spiritual director.

  • Attend a vocation discernment retreat at the Novitiate with other inquirers who are discerning their vocations.

  • Begin the application process to enter the Society at the invitation of the Vocation Director.
